Laura Renteria, Ph.D. joined IRFG in 2008 as a core staff member of the Neuropsychology Clinic and Public Safety Program. She obtained her doctorate in clinical psychology from Loyola University Chicago and completed fellowship training in neuropsychology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where she presently holds an academic appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor teaching post doctoral fellows and interns from the Neuropsychology Service on such topics as neuroanatomy, neurologic disorders and cross-cultural issues in neuropsychology. She is bilingual (English and Spanish) and has focused a significant portion of her research and practice on raising awareness of sociocultural factors in neuropsychological test interpretation and improving the psychometric instruments available to clinicians for use with Spanish speakers. Dr.Renteria is currently President Elect of the Hispanic Neuropsychological Society.

Further specialty areas of research and practice include the
neuropsychological assessment of pediatric, adult and geriatric patients
with memory disorders, neurologic insult or disease, attention deficit and learning disorders, and emotional and medical conditions (including chronic pain) that can impact cognitive functioning. Dr. Renteria additionally maintains a
treatment caseload of patients with anxiety disorders, including
posttraumatic stress disorder, chronic pain, and those adjusting
to neurologic injury or diagnosis.
